Google Webmaster Tools notice of detected unnatural links

Tonight my site went from #1 for a keyword (which is has been 95% of the time for the last 3 months) to #6, that is quite an alarming (and for me personally disgusting) drop.

I decided to check google webmaster tools (I don't often check it I must admit) and I have a message from the 24th of December titled

"Google Webmaster Tools notice of detected unnatural links"

The message goes on to ask me to submit my site for reconsideration in google search results..

I have noticed a couple of links, one from divat.weblink.hu/ pointing to my site which is nothing to do with me, when I saw it a couple of weeks ago I thought it was odd but didn't think much of it other than that.

Do you think it might have been placed there maliciously?

The thing is though until today none of my keywords have dropped in the SERPs at all.

So how common/bad is it to receive a message from google regarding unnatural links? and if they were going to hit my site hard would they have done in on the 24th? and do you think the drop for one of my keywords is related..Rosetta Stone English Rosetta Stone French


I would say that it seems unrelated since its been two weeks, but a drop from #1 to #6 is pretty extreme and unnatural.. hopefully its just a blip and when I wake up tomorrow it will be back in its rightful place, but that may be wishful thinking.

ps. None of my link building has been in anyway shady what so ever. I should also point out all my other pages and keywords are ranking the same, I think I may be just worrying myself.
