| St. Demaryius Thomas Jersey . Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Julio Lugo tripled in two runs and scored the go-ahead tally on an Albert Pujols sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, as the Cardinals beat the Florida Marlins, 11-6, to open a three-game series. Colby Rasmus had three hits, including an insurance three-run homer in the eighth inning, and Matt Holliday drove in three runs for St. Louis, which snapped a three-game skid and reduced its magic number to 10 for clinching the National League Central Division title. Ryan Ludwick added a two-run single and Skip Schumaker finished with three hits and three runs scored in the victory. Todd Wellemeyer started for the Cardinals and allowed nine hits and six runs over four innings. Blake Hawksworth (4-0) yielded a hit over 1 1/3 scoreless frames to get the win. Nick Johnson drilled a two-run homer and Chris Coghlan tacked on a two-run triple for the Marlins, who lost for the third time in four contests. Florida is now seven games behind Philadelphia for first place in the NL East. The Marlins remained 5 1/2 games behind Colorado for the lead in the NL wild card standings. Ricky Nolasco (11-9), who won his previous three decisions, surrendered 10 hits and seven runs over five innings. "Just have to tip your hat [to the Cardinals]," Nolasco said. "I made tons of good pitches and they fought off the good ones." Trailing by two runs, the Cardinals went ahead with a three-run fourth inning. Pinch-hitter Khalil Greene singled and Schumaker followed with a one-out base hit. Lugo then tripled to the gap in right-center field before Pujols gave St. Louis a 7-6 edge with a sacrifice fly to right field. John Baker flied out to end the Florida seventh, leaving two men on base. The Cardinals added four runs in the eighth. Just after Pujols was intentionally walked with two away, Holliday doubled to left field to drive in Schumaker, who had walked earlier in the inning. Rasmus then took a Matt Lindstrom pitch barely over the wall in right field. "They were some big two-out hits...That would have been a very challenging ninth with the middle of their lineup coming up," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said. Schumaker singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and Pujols doubled with one out. Holliday followed with a two-run base hit to right. Rasmus singled and went to second on a throw to third base before scoring on Ludwicks two-run hit up the middle. Cody Ross singled to right field to drive in Dan Uggla in the second, but the Marlins wasted an opportunity with men on the corners later in the inning. Johnson doubled to start the third and scored on a double-play groundout from Jorge Cantu before the Marlins went ahead 6-4 with a four-run fourth inning. Coghlans triple down the right field line plated Baker and Cameron Maybin. Johnson followed with his eighth homer of the year, a blast to right. Game Notes The Cardinals have won five of the last six meetings...St. Louis, which had 17 hits, was swept at home by Atlanta over the weekend...Pujols has 125 RBI, which is 12 shy of his best mark for a single season (2006). However, Quentin Thomas layup 43 seconds before intermission sent North Carolina to the locker room ahead 31-29. Florida State took the lead early in the second half, but after a pair of Hansbrough free throws gave UNC a 38-37 lead, Green canned a three to put the Tar Heels up by four. The Seminoles tied the game, but were unable to take the lead as the Tar Heels slowly began to pull away.
