| MONTREAL -- The new players on the Montreal Impact gathered for the first time on Thursday and got a look at the uniforms they will be wearing when the club enters Major League Soccer next season. Miles Austin Jersey . Newcomers like goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, midfielder Davy Arnaud and striker Justin Braun got to show off the clubs new gear on a fashion show-style runway as the new shirts and shorts were unveiled before a few hundred invited fans and well-wishers Thursday at the Montreal Science Centre. The Impact, who join MLS as its 19th club in 2012, opted to stick with the traditional blue-and-white colours they wore while winning three championships in various second division leagues since the early 1990s. "Im excited to be here," said Braun, who joined the Impact from Chivas USA. "Im coming here with a blank slate. "Im trying to learn the city and the culture here. I think itll be fun. Its nice to experience new things, especially something big like this." The teams main shirt and shorts will be deep blue with white patches under the arms and white stripes from the shoulders down, while the away jerseys are the same except they are white with blue trim. A splash of red is incorporated with the teams jersey sponsor BMO, the same bank whose logo adorns the shirts of Toronto FC. No doubt a bitter rivalry will develop considering fans booed when TFCs colours were shown on a video screen. Its not a unique situation, as even age-old Scottish rivals Celtic and Rangers have the same beer brands logo on their shirts. "I think its great, well see how our fans accept it," team president Joey Saputo said. The teams new kit was designed by league sponsor Adidas, with input from the club. It includes an embossed cross made up of tiny fleur-de-lys representing the cross atop Mount Royal that overlooks downtown. The two stripes down the sleeves represent the river that flows past the island of Montreal. Near the collar on the back of the jersey is the team motto in French, "Tous pour gagner," or "All for victory." There is also an MLS logo on the right sleeve and a Canadian flag on the left. "Obviously its very beautiful," said Mauro Biello, a long-time Impact player who is an assistant to head coach Jesse Marsch. "Theyre Montreal colours. Its a big day for soccer in Montreal. Making a big splash tonight is great. Were looking forward to the season." Fans sang the team supporters songs as a handful of players, as well as boxer Jean Pascal and former NHL players Patrice Brisebois and Eric Fichaud, posed in the jerseys. Fans chanted his name as Colombian defender Nelson Rivas, the first player acquired by the team for the jump to MLS, was first onto the runaway in the new gear. They will play their inaugural home game March 17 at Olympic Stadium, where they will be based until Saputo Stadium is expanded to 20,000 seats to meet MLS criteria. After an expansion draft last week and the acquisition of a few more players in trades and signings, there are 18 players on the roster. Only three of them played for Montreal last season -- goalkepper Evan Bush, defender Hassoun Camera and midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic. "Its huge challenge," said Arnaud, a 10-year MLS veteran with Kansas City. "Theres not a lot of time now between the team assembling and the start of the season, but you should be excited for this kind of challenge." The Impact are waiting to see what transpires with their first expansion draft pick Brian Ching, who has said he would retire rather than leave Houston. Montreal is expected to make a deal with Dynamo and are reportedly asking for Montreal-born right back Andrew Hainault. There will be another opportunity for acquisitions in the re-entry draft on Monday for players whose contracts have expired or whose options werent renewed. "I think with the draft and the trades we made, we brought a lot of experienced guys, said Saputo. "A guy like Davy Arnaud has played 10 years in MLS and has been a captain. Im not scooping you, but I wouldnt be surprised if Davy becomes the Montreal Impacts first captain. Hes that type of character." Cameron Jordan Jersey . Dillon Gee, bidding to win his eighth straight decision, allowed just one hit over four innings while striking out five, but his start was cut short by a 1:11 rain delay. D.J. Carrasco worked two perfect innings in relief, while Bobby Parnell (1-1) allowed just one hit and struck out five over two frames, as the Mets won their second straight and evened their record at . Authentic Dwight Howard Jersey . Whitecaps defender Jeff Parke handled the ball in the Vancouver box as he tried to win possession from the dangerous Nunes. The Brazilian then stepped up to beat Whitecaps goalkeeper Jay Nolly with a left-footed strike to give Miami a two-goal lead. Chauncey Billups Swingman Jersey . Now the club has a chance to take over the top spot in the American League East before the end of May. The Red Sox try to extend their season-high seven-game winning streak this evening as they continue a three-game series tonight with the Chicago Cubs, who are making their first trip to Fenway Park in nearly a century. Mark Sanchez Jersey .5 million in prize money. "This . . . is just the first step in creating an elite platform of golf that runs from Delhi through to Auckland," commissioner Ben Sellenger of the Australian PGA Tour said Tuesday in a tour newsletter. Michael Oher Jersey . -- An MRI has revealed Seattle Mariners catcher Miguel Olivo has suffered a strained adductor muscle and the team has no timetable for his return.SHERBROOKE, Que. -- Peter Nolan submitted Sebastien Gauthier in 35 seconds with a rear-naked choke on Saturday night to win the main event of Instinct MMAs seven-and-a-half-hour card. The evening started at 4 p.m. local time with a 31 second TKO by Yanick Duval and ended at 11:30 with Nolans victory. Nolan was a late replacement in the main event, but that did not stop the heavyweight from making short work of his opponent. "I wanted to make the best of this opportunity," said Nolan after the victory. "Submissions are my main thing, but I can throw punches as well." In the semi-main event, Colorados Brandon Thatch knocked out Jory Erickson with a knee in 18 seconds. It was his second consecutive win at Instinct MMA, only requiring a total of 33 seconds for the two wins. Thatch commented on his knockout of the night performance after the bout. "People want to keep diving at my legs and I keep throwing knees," said Thatch. "Time to change your game plan, people." Quebecs Stephane Pelletier won his fourth consecutive fight with his win over Melvin Blumer. Pelletier finished with an arm-bar submission in the first round that was worthy of submission of the night. "I wanted to work my stand up and show what I could do, but Im very happy with my perrformance and Ill continue getting better," said Pelletier. Delanie Walker Jersey. The fight of the night went to two light-heavyweights as Frances Moise Rimbon took on American DJ Linderman in a three-round slugfest. The fight could have been over early had Linderman been less resilient. Rimbon scored with beautiful flashy kicks throughout the fight to garner the decision victory. Alex Laramee dominated Emmanuel Crevier in the first round so thoroughly that the fight was waved off after the first bell. Anselmo Gutierrez TKOd Guillaume Vigneau late in the second round with strikes. Strahinja Gavrilovic rebounded after losing the first round and ultimately tapped out Alex Pelletier in the third with a kimura. Remy Bussieres ended Bruno Lurettes night with a highlight-reel knockout early in the second round. Derek Parker tapped out Dave Bedard with a rear naked choke late in the first round. In a back and forth fight, Loyd Galindo finally tapped Alexandre Gauthier out with a rear naked choke in the final round of their match. In a controversial decision, Yves Lemelin got the nod over Jason Riley. It appeared that Riley had done more than enough for the win, but the judges saw things differently. In earlier action, Guy Poulin, Kevin Lee, and Frank Marques also scored victories. Wholesale Jerseys ' ' ' |
